Geometric figures are shapes that are made up of points, lines, and angles. They are all around us, from the simple shapes of everyday objects to the more intricate patterns found in nature. Understanding and recognizing these figures is an important part of math and science education. In this lesson, we will explore two more geometric figures: the triangle and the square.
The Triangle

A triangle is a shape made of three straight lines and three angles. Triangles come in many different shapes and sizes, from equilateral triangles with all sides equal, to scalene triangles with no sides equal. Triangles can also be classified by the type of angles they contain, such as right triangles with one right angle, obtuse triangles with one obtuse angle, and acute triangles with all acute angles. No matter what kind of triangle you are dealing with, the sum of its interior angles will always equal 180°.
The Square

A square is a shape made of four straight lines and four angles. All sides of a square are equal, and all of its interior angles are right angles, making it a unique geometric figure. Squares are unique because the perimeter and area of the shape are the same value. In other words, if you know the length of one side, you can determine the perimeter and area of the square.
Applications of Geometric Figures

Geometric figures are used in a variety of fields. In architecture, for example, architects use geometric figures to design buildings and other structures. In engineering, geometrical figures are used to construct machines and other equipment. Geometric figures are also used in construction, art, and design. Knowing how to recognize and use geometric figures is an important part of math and science education.
