Step 1: Date the Check

Start by writing the current date in the top right-hand corner of the check. This is the date the check is written on and the date that the funds will be taken from your account. This date must be written in the correct format. Depending on where you live, the date can be written in different formats such as month/day/year or day/month/year. Make sure to double-check the date to ensure accuracy.
Step 2: Write the Recipient’s Name

In the “Pay to the Order of” line, write the recipient’s name. This should be the full name of the person or business you’re writing the check to. You can also include the recipient’s address, phone number, and other contact information. Make sure to double-check the spelling of the name to ensure accuracy and to prevent fraud.
Step 3: Write the Check Amount

In the box to the right of the recipient’s name, write out the dollar amount of the check in numerals. You can use a fraction, such as 4/100, to indicate the amount of cents, or you can use a decimal, such as 0.04. For example, if you’re writing a check for $130, you’ll write “130.00” in this box. This is the amount that will be taken from your account.
Step 4: Write the Check Amount in Words

In the line below the recipient’s name, write out the dollar amount of the check in words. For example, if you’re writing a check for $130, you’ll write “one hundred thirty and 00/100” in this line. Make sure to include the word “and” and the fraction “00/100” to indicate that there are no cents. Also, make sure to double-check the spelling and accuracy of the amount in words.
Step 5: Sign the Check

In the bottom right-hand corner of the check, sign your name. This is the same signature that you provided to your bank when you opened your account. Make sure to sign the check in the same way each time to prevent fraud.
