Alan Gratz is an American author of children’s and young adult literature. He is best known for his works Refugee, Projekt 1065, and Code of Honor. Alan Gratz was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1973. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and has a Masters of Fine Arts from Vermont College. He has been writing since he was a child and has published dozens of books throughout his career.
Alan Gratz has written more than 30 books for children and young adults. His best known works include Refugee, a historical fiction novel about three different children and their families who attempt to escape from dangerous circumstances. Projekt 1065 is an espionage thriller set in World War II Germany. Code of Honor is a gripping family drama about two teenage brothers and their struggles to keep their family together. His other books include The Brooklyn Nine, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Prisoner B-3087, I Am Number Four, Grenade, and The Matchstick Castle.
In addition to his works of fiction, Alan Gratz has also written several non-fiction works. He has written biographies of historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King Jr. He has also written books about the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement. His most recent book, Refugee Rising, is a memoir about his experience growing up as a refugee.
Alan Gratz has received numerous awards and honors for his work. He was a National Book Award finalist for Refugee and a Rhode Island State Book Award winner for Projekt 1065. He has also been nominated for a number of other awards, including the William C. Morris Award, the Edgar Award, and the International Literacy Association Award. In addition, he has been named an ALA Notable Children’s Book Author and a Publishers Weekly Flying Start Author.
